Israel has halted all security exports to Colombia due to a strong stance against the country, writes the EFE agency. This is a reaction to comments from Colombia’s President, Gustavo Petro.Israel’s Foreign Ministry announced this move on Sunday after a thorough discussion with Colombia’s ambassador, Margarita Manjarrez.Petro criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, likening them to Nazi persecution of Jews.

(see below)Lior Haiat, the spokesperson for Israel’s Foreign Ministry, clarified the country’s stance. He mentioned that Petro’s social media posts fail to condemn violent activities by Hamas against Israeli citizens. These actions, Israel believes, require a strong response.

Israel has been a key supplier of military equipment to Colombia, including fighter planes and rifles. However, tension has escalated because of Petro’s remarks.

His statements have not only irked Israel but have also stirred up feelings in the international Jewish community. As a result, the usually stable relationship between Israel and Colombia now faces turbulence. This isn’t the first time Petro has been confrontational.

His comments have been divisive in the past as well.BackgroundColombia’s President Gustavo Petro criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, likening them to Nazi persecution of Jews.Responding to Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s “complete siege” of Gaza remark, Petro said.

“This is what the Nazis said of the Jews.”Gallant described the Gaza blockade as denying essentials like food and electricity. On the platform X, Petro warned against allowing Nazism in international politics, calling Gallant’s words “hate speech.”He fears this could lead to another holocaust. After a surprise attack by Hamas on Israeli towns, Israel has intensified its strikes on Gaza, leading to hundreds of deaths, with some hostages believed to be Colombians.
